Carnival in Cinisi: 4 days of fun from February 25th

The events that enliven the Carnival 2017 in Sicily are so many. And one of the most anticipated, a real must of the winter on this beautiful island, is the Carnival of Cinisi, which, this year, will take place from February 25th to 28th.

The Carnival

What to expect from the 2017 edition? It’s easy to say: a Carnival particularly rich in all the main ingredients of this kind of event, such as colours, lights, masks, floats and lots of fun.

  • February 25th, Saturday. The first day begins with the float of Nannu (“grandfather”), followed by other floats and masked Carnival groups. In the evening, musical entertainment in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele Orlando.
  • February 26th, Sunday. It will be the day of primary and secondary schools that will parade through the streets of Cinisi. In the evening, there will be the parade of floats built by three groups: Gli Abusivi, Gli Artisti per Caso and I Lupunara & Friends.
  • February 27th, Monday. The historic ride will take place in this day.
  • February 28th, Mardi Gras. The grand finale, with the parade of the “veterans of the Carnival” and groups of school children.

Cinisi

It is one of the most beautiful small towns near Palermo. Here, the beauty of nature meets the charm of an ancient history. The old town centre of Cinisi offers testimonies dating back to ancient Rome and Carthage. A walk through the narrow streets is a unique experience.

And then, even though it is winter, you cannot get to Cinisi and don’t see the beach of Magaggiari, one of the most famous near Palermo: in February, you will admire a spectacular panorama.

How to get there

To get there from Palermo, you just have to take the E90 motorway towards Mazara del Vallo and follow the road signs to Cinisi. The journey by car takes about 45 minutes.
