Egadi Islands, Sicily: the 10 things to see during your holiday here

They rise from the sea just off the west coast of Sicily. And they are wonderful places, chosen by hundreds of visitors every year for their vacations. And it’s your chosen destination, too. For this reason, your question is: what to see on Egadi Islands?

1. Cala rossa (Favignana)

The first place to see is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily. It is a rocky amphitheatre that “protects” the small cove with its turquoise and transparent waters: an authentic spectacle of nature. You can get to Cala Rossa walking along an easy path.

2. Levanzo town (Levanzo)

Imagine this scene: few and small houses, narrow streets, staircases that seem to appear suddenly while you’re walking. Everything immersed into an atmosphere of absolute tranquillity, enriched by the scents of the sea. This is the picturesque and really, really charming town of Levanzo.

3. Praia dei Nacchi (Marettimo)

Regarding the beaches in Marettimo, Praia of Nacchi should be part of every itinerary. From the main town of the islands, it takes about twenty minutes, along an easy footpath, to get there. It is a small but unforgettable pebble and sand beach. Unforgettable for its sea, of course.

4. Visit the island (Favignana)

Although the beaches are the main reason for which this island is a famous tourist destination, on Favignana Island there are (at least) four other places to see: the Eighteenth-century church dedicated to Madonna dell’Immacolata Concezione, villa Florio, the ancient tonnara, the fort of Santa Caterina.

5. The wreck of a Roman ship (Levanzo)

The sea between Cala Minnola and Punta Altarella preserves an ancient treasure: at a depth of thirty meters, the wreck of a Roman ship lies on the bottom of the sea, surrounded by fifty amphorae and pottery fragments. A good idea for scuba diving.

6. Grotta del Cammello (Marettimo)

It is the most famous and visited among the many caves of Marettimo Island. The sea is deep blue. And it is illuminated by a sort of natural skylight that enhances colours and shades.

7. Isola Galeotta (Favignana)

Divers surely know this place. If diving is not your passion, this small and unspoiled island is a good idea for a boat excursion: the Isola Galeotta is a place where you can immerse yourself in a pristine nature.

8. Cala Dogana (Levanzo)

This beach will welcome you when you will arrive in Levanzo. Because it is located near the port, it is easy to reach and is a little jewel that rises from the sea. Get there by boat and enjoy the beautiful landscape.

9. Monte Falcone (Marettimo)

If you are hikers, this place is for you. Monte Falcone is the highest peak of the island. The path passes near the so-called Case romane (literally, “Roman houses”), then it plunges into the Mediterranean scrub and arrives on top of the mountain. Where you can admire the most beautiful view that the island could ever offer. The path is suitable for everyone.

10. The other islands

Levanzo, Marettimo and Favignana are the three main islands of Egadi Archipelago. Among the things to see, there are those that can be defined as the smaller islands: Maraone, Formica, dello Stagnone, Galera, Galeotta, Preveto, Fariglione. They’re worth a visit.
