Will your holiday take place in summer, autumn or winter? Well, it doesn’t really matter: Sicily is wonderful to see throughout the year. And, if the chosen destination is the western part, these are the five most beautiful excursions.
- Mozia. The ruins of this ancient Phoenician city are located on San Pantaleo Island, in the Lagoon of Marsala (Stagnone di Marsala), in the province of Trapani. You can visit the island in one day. To get to Motya, take a boat from Contrada Spagnola
- Segesta. This ancient city, founded by the Elymians (an ancient people who inhabited the western part of Sicily during the Bronze Age), is on the top of Mount Barbaro, in the province of Trapani. It is one of the most beautiful places of Sicily and this is the best reason to visit it. You can get to Segesta by car, train or bus.
- Favignana. Another great idea for a one-day excursion. In addition to the famous beaches (such as cala Rossa and cala Azzurra), the places to see are Villa Florio, the ancient tonnara, the fort of Santa Caterina, lido Burrone beach and Marasolo beach.
- Erice. Its castle can be described using just one word: spectacular. In the province of Trapani, Erice is a small stone town. Even today you can immerse yourself in its medieval atmosphere.
- Selinunte. Once, it was an ancient Greek city on the south-western coast of Sicily. Today, Selinunte is the largest archaeological park in Europe.
