Italy: there are 5 typical recipes prepared during Sicilian Carnival

The Carnival in Sicily, one of the most anticipated events of the winter on this beautiful island, is celebrated in many ways. Because there are many countries and cities where tradition is alive and felt. And there are also many typical Sicilian dishes that are prepared for the Carnival. Like these five, the most characteristic of all.

Traditional dishes

1. Macaroni with meat sauce

They don’t even need an introduction. One of the most typical Italian dishes, macaroni with meat sauce are characteristic of the Carnival period in Sicily. The ragù, obviously, must be very rich in meat or will not have its unmistakable flavor.

2. Fat Thursday soup

To be precise, it is a typical recipe from Modica, in the province of Ragusa. It is prepared with vegetables, potatoes, shelled dried beans, onion, parsley, and pork lard.

3. Macaroni with sausage

The maccarruna ca sasizza are very particular, as they are seasoned with a delicious ragù prepared (also) with pieces of sausage.

4. Turkish heads

Typical of Scicli, they are large cream puffs stuffed with custard or ricotta. The name derives from their shape, which resembles a turban.

5. Pignoccata

It is a pine cone-shaped dessert, hence the name. It is prepared with flour, sugar, egg yolks and a pinch of salt.

Finally, this roundup of typical Carnival dishes in Sicily is completed by some desserts that can be found a bit all over Italy: chiacchiere, chestnuts and fried zeppole. Obviously, cannoli and cassate, authentic jewels of Sicilian culture, also have their space.
