MareFestival Salina: Massimo Troisi award in July

Il postino is the last film directed and interpreted by the great Massimo Troisi. Several scenes were filmed on the island of Salina, in the Aeolian archipelago. And, not surprisingly, every year the island dedicates a festival to the Neapolitan director and actor: we are talking about MareFestival Salina – Massimo Troisi Award, whose 2018 edition will be held from 11 to 14 July.

The festival

Cinema, music, culture and fashion: these are the elements that have made the MareFestival Salina an unmissable event for all film enthusiasts. Also this year, there will be shorts, feature films, concerts and meetings with actors and directors. And the MareFestival awards will be presented in memory of Massimo Troisi, MareFestival Salina and the Argento plaques.

• We talked about Massimo Troisi’s latest film. So this little holiday will never be complete if you don’t visit the places of Salina where The postman was shot: they are the beach of Pollara, the rugged and sunny street named after Troisi, and the house where, in the film, Mario Ruoppolo and Pablo Neruda stopped to chat. You will have the impression of retracing the history of the film.
• Holiday in summer is also synonymous with sand, sun and a charming sea. So for you, the most beautiful beaches of Salina: the beach of Pollara, which has already been discussed, and we must also add Scario, Santa Marina and Rinella.
• Finally, among the things to see in Salina we must mention the village of Malfa, the Nature Reserve Le Montagne delle Felci e dei Porri, the prehistoric village of Portella.

How to get

First of all, you have to book a place on one of the ferries to Sicily that arrive to Messina. From here, it takes about forty minutes by car to reach Milazzo. And from the port of Milazzo, every day, ferries leave the visitors to Salina and the other Aeolian islands.
