You are lucky enough to spend a few days holiday in Sicily between the end of May and the beginning of September. A holiday to which you want to give that extra touch of culture that will make it really special. And it happens that you are a great fan of the seventh art. We have the idea for you: it is the 2018 edition of the Sicilia Queer FilmFest, which will be held in Palermo from 31 May to 6 June.
Scheduling
In addition to the various non-competitive categories, the films and works in competition at the Sicilia Qeer FilmFest 2018 will be included in one of these two sections:
- Queer Short: International Short Film Competition. This section is open to films of all genres (fiction, documentary, animation, music videos, experimentation), works that still need to address the issue in a particular and innovative way.
- International New Visions Award. This category includes first and second works that do not necessarily have to be treated in a “queer” manner.
“Queer” in the sense of unconventional, non-compliant, innovative: this is the spirit that must have the various works to participate in this festival, an event that has as its objective the fight against discrimination and the defense of cultural diversity.
Visiting Palermo
The Sicily Queer FilmFest 2018 will last exactly one week. Seven days during which you will discover how much Palermo and its surroundings can be splendid.
- First of all, you must see the most beautiful places in Palermo: among the many, we must mention at least the famous Cappella Palatina, the sounds and scents of the Ballarò market, the charming alleys of the medieval Kalsa, the grandeur of the cathedral. All places that will leave you speechless.
- Since the event will be held in late spring, we can assure you that you will find all the best conditions to enjoy the many beaches of Palermo: in addition to Addaura and Mondello, authentic must-have of any holiday in the Sicilian capital, not far away places like Cefalù, San Vito Lo Capo, Magaggiari and Isola delle Femmine.
- Finally, near Palermo there are seven countries worth visiting: Terrasini, Cinisi, Scopello, Santa Margherita Belice, Polizzi Generosa, Cefalù and Salemi. Seven stages of a journey always poised between the scents of the sea and the Mediterranean scrub.
