Sicily that amazes: 5 very special places to discover

There is no need to repeat how beautiful Sicily is to visit: in a certain sense, every part of this splendid island demonstrates this. And these five very special places also confirm it. Some known, others less. All, however, full of a unique and unforgettable charm.

Faraglioni dei Ciclopi (Catania)

To admire this authentic spectacle of nature, just move to the province of Catania, to be precise in Acitrezza. Where the so-called sea stacks of the Cyclops rise from the sea, a short distance from the coast. According to the legend, they would be the boulders thrown by Polyphemus against the ship of Ulysses. A place also immortalized in the Malavoglia, a masterpiece novel by Giovanni Verga.

Fiumara d’arte (Messina)

More than particular, this is a simply unexpected place. Fiumara d’arte is a sort of open-air museum that houses the installations by various contemporary artists, from Sicily and beyond. La materia poteva non esserci, Una curva gettata alle spalle del tempo and Stanza di barca d’oro are some of the main works. Fiumara d’arte is located in Castel di Tusa, near Messina.

Santuario di Santa Rosalia (Palermo)

You will visit one of the most characteristic places of the Sicilian capital. The sanctuary is partially built inside a natural cave, almost on the top of Mount Pellegrino. There are several ways to reach the sanctuary of Santa Rosalia in Palermo: on foot, by bus, by car. The sanctuary of Santa Rosalia is one of the places in the city that best represents the great devotion and deep religious spirit of the citizens of Palermo.

Motya (Trapani)

One of the most beautiful archaeological sites in Sicily and this alone would be enough to justify the visit. The remains of this ancient Phoenician city completely occupy a small islet that rises in the Marsala lagoon. Motya can be reached by boarding one of the small boats that depart from the small port in Contrada Spagnola, in the Saline della Laguna area.

Grotta delle Trabacche (Ragusa)

The Trabacche cave, excavated in the limestone plateaus that characterize the Iblei mountains, was built around the fourth century BC. The place is one of a kind and is a great idea for a pleasant day trip.

With this itinerary, you will get to five of the main cities of the island, namely Palermo, Catania, Messina, Trapani and Ragusa. And since you have now chosen the destination of your next vacation, there is only one thing left to do: book your ferry trip to Sicily.
