Spa holidays in Sicily: 3 places where to spend a very relaxing vacation

When you say Sicily, three kinds of holiday suddenly come to your mind: sea, culture, and hiking. For the next journey, instead, you might spend three or four days dedicated solely to relaxation and wellness treatments: these are the most famous spas in Sicily.

 

1. Terme di Acireale

Officially founded in 1873, according to tradition the first structure has Greek origins. The modern thermal baths of Acireale, dedicated to Santa Venera, were built in Neoclassical style and are surrounded by an English garden. Its waters are used for the treatment of bone and joint diseases, rheumatisms and skin diseases.

  • from Catania, take state highway 114 towards Acireale
  • follow the road sign to the thermal baths

 

2. Terme di Sciacca

The thermal baths of Sciacca are appreciated since the time of ancient Greek. Here, you can find sulphur waters and mineral waters. The thermal waters are used for the treatment of bones and joints diseases and of respiratory diseases.

How to get there:

  • from Palermo, take A29 motorway towards Mazara del Vallo
  • exit at Castelvetrano and follow the road signs to Sciacca

Near Sciacca there is the famous Scala dei Turchi, one of the most beautiful Sicilian beaches: it’s worth a visit if your vacation will be in Spring or in Summer.

 

3. Terme Vigliatore

Located between Milazzo and Tindari, archaeological finds demonstrate that the waters were used in Roman times. The water of the so-called Fonte di Venere (“Spring of Venus”) is used for vascular system diseases, has anti-inflammatory and anti-toxic effect, has beneficial effects for the epidermis.

Hot to get there:

  • from Messina, take E90 motorway towards Palermo and exit at Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto
  • from Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, take state highway 113 and follow the road signs to Terme Vigliatore
