Itinerary to visit Favignana in one day: there are 7 things to see

You’re spending a holiday along the west coast of Sicily. Not far from the coast, a real natural jewel rises from the waves of the Mediterranean Sea. A place that you really must see. And this an itinerary to visit Favignana.

 

The itinerary:

  1. Villa Florio. It is a neo-Gothic building which is located in the centre of the small village of Favignana.
  2. La tonnara della famiglia Florio. Today, this ancient tonnara (a structure for preparation of canned tuna fish) is a museum.
  3. Cala Rossa. It is one of the most beautiful beaches of Favignana, a rocky amphitheatre that surrounds an unforgettable sea. Getting there is a sort of hiking excursion.
  4. Cala Azzurra. This beach has become famous because it’s quite large and the colour of its waters is unique.
  5. Forte di Santa Caterina. The fortress is located on the summit of the homonymous mountain. It offers breathtaking views over the island.
  6. Lido Burrone. Another quite large beach of the island.
  7. Marasolo. The real reason to get there is the view.

 

What to eat

With this itinerary, you will see a lot of places. And you will surely be hungry. In the village of Favignana, there are several restaurants that will allow you to taste the typical dishes of the island. Culinary specialties such as these four:

  • Sicilian granita and brioche.
  • Tuna (carpaccio, smoked, meatballs in sauce, roasted, with onion).
  • Pasta with tuna bottarga (tuna roe).
  • Fish with couscous.

 

How to visit Favignana

The best means of locomotion to visit Favignana Island are two: bike or scooter, because roads are often narrow and unpaved. You can rent bike or scooter on the quay of Favignana village.

 

How to get there

  • The port of Trapani is the staring point of ferries and hydrofoils that bring visitors to Favignana. The journey by ferry/hydrofoil takes about 45 minutes.
  • To get to Trapani, you can choose among car, train, ferry, and bus.
