It’s overlooking one of the most beautiful views of the Mediterranean, near Palermo. We can consider it the most beautiful villages in Italy. It is part of the Madonie Park. In other words, there are all the necessary conditions to visit one of the most beautiful places Sicily can offer its visitors. But you have to know what to see in Cefalù.
This is the true heart of Cefalù. In Arabic-Norman style, according to the legend, the Duomo was built by Ruggero II, escaped in a storm and landed in Cefalù as a vote to the Santissimo Salvatore. There is, among other things, the Byzantine polychrome mosaic from the 6th century.
Addressed to master Salvatore Cicero, musician and first violin of the Sicilian symphonic orchestra, his room has three stages. Ceiling, curtain and backdrops have a pictorial decoration of Rosario Spagnolo.
It’s located near Martino palace of late Renaissance. It consists of a lava-stone staircase and a lumachella leading to a series of tanks filled with the water of twentytwo cast iron mouths.
Dating back to the 5th century b.C., it’s a megalithic city wall surrounding the historic center of Cefalù and it’s still largely preserved today.
It stands on the rocks behind the cathedral. The temple of Diana is a sanctuary consisting of a megalithic building and covered with dolmenic stone slabs. The property hosts an even older tank in the building dating back to the 9th century b.C.
Its foundation is also attributed to Ruggero II and it would be older than the same Duomo. The interior of the San Leonardo Church is a single nave, and there are traces of the original central portal, nowadays tamponated.
A fortified palace that for many centuries has been handed down as the domus regia directed by Ruggero II. Elements of Arab-Norman architecture are evident in this building, which develops around a large interior courtyard with stairs leading to the noble floor.
Needless to say that for its location, Cefalù can vaunt many beautiful beaches: Lungomare, Caldura, Salinelle, Capo Playa, Mazzaforno, Sant’Ambrogio, Finale di Pollina.
